VocAlign Pro Review: Fast Vocal Alignment

Timing alignment with VocAlign

The beat is done and the vocals are tracked. Just the mixdown left — except a stack of harmony and double takes behind the lead vocal still needs timing alignment. Fixing the drift on even one track takes focus; with three or four harmonies, cutting, stretching and drawing fades can eat hours. If you produce songs, you know the drill.

The tool that automates this tedious, time-consuming step is VocAlign from Synchro Arts. As of July 9, 2026, the Beat Lab editorial team reviewed the Plugin Boutique product page and Synchro Arts' official description to lay out what VocAlign 6 Pro does, how it differs from Standard, its Pro Tools ARA integration and pricing. For prepping mixes that include vocals, how to build a mix template is also a useful reference.

What is VocAlign? The industry-standard vocal aligner

VocAlign is a vocal alignment plugin developed by Synchro Arts. The company positions it as "the industry standard plugin for aligning audio," explaining that it takes two separate vocal performances and matches their timing and pitch instantly — a tool aimed at getting pro-sounding results without spending time tightening vocals by hand.

The current lineup has two editions, VocAlign Standard and VocAlign Pro. As the sixth generation, it's sold on Plugin Boutique and elsewhere as "VocAlign 6 Pro"; the contents are the same current version. The basic workflow is simple — two steps:

  1. Set the reference (guide) track
  2. Set the harmony/double track whose timing you want to match

That aligns the target track to the guide's onset timing and length automatically. Adjusting Tightness controls how precisely it matches — loosen it and you can leave a human-feeling looseness.

Pro-only key features

"Aren't there other auto-align plugins?" is a fair question, but the Pro edition offers features Standard doesn't, such as batch timing processing and pitch following. Based on the official feature list, here are the three that matter most in practice.

1. ARA-compatible (including Pro Tools), cutting capture time

Traditional alignment required "real-time playback capture" of DAW audio into the plugin. The current VocAlign is ARA-compatible, so in ARA hosts including Pro Tools, you just select the target clip and open it to load the waveform. The company notes that Pro Tools ARA integration requires a supported version (2024.6 or later), and that on earlier versions it can be used as an AudioSuite plugin.

2. "Process Groups" for batch-processing many harmonies

With five or six harmonies, setting each track one by one is a chore. The Pro-only "Process Groups" lets you gather multiple harmonies/doubles into a group and apply alignment in one pass — useful for prepping thick choruses and heavily layered songs.

3. "SmartPitch" and "Pitch Alignment" for following pitch

The Pro edition handles pitch alignment as well as timing. SmartPitch intelligently makes the harmony follow the guide's pitch — locking unisons tightly while keeping intervals like a third above musically intact. Pro also adds Formant Shifting, Transpose, Sync Points & Protected Area, and SynchroLink for connecting to RePitch.

It helps mix quality, not just speed

When timing and pitch line up, there's more than just time savings. With consonants and onsets stacking cleanly, the spread when you pan left and right becomes clearer, and downstream space effects like compression, reverb and delay tend to behave more consistently. Because your ears aren't worn out by editing, it's easier to focus on the most important part — the actual sound (EQ and balance). Beyond locking everything tight, you can also loosen Tightness to keep a tasteful looseness. For a loudness check on the result, use our dynamics analysis (loudness / LUFS).

Frequently asked questions

Q1. What's the difference between VocAlign Standard and Pro?

A. Standard (regularly $149) centers on timing alignment (SmartAlign and Tightness control). Pro (regularly $199) adds Process Groups for batch-processing multiple tracks, SmartPitch / Pitch Alignment for following pitch, Formant Shifting, Transpose, Sync Points & Protected Area, and SynchroLink to RePitch. If you handle lots of harmonies and doubles, Pro is the one to consider.

Q2. Is there a Pro Tools version requirement for ARA?

A. VocAlign is ARA-compatible and works in ARA hosts including Pro Tools. Synchro Arts specifies a supported Pro Tools version (2024.6 or later) for ARA, and on earlier versions it can be used as an AudioSuite plugin. Confirm the exact requirements officially before purchase.

Q3. Can it replace pitch-correction software like Melodyne?

A. The roles differ a bit. VocAlign focuses on timing alignment to a guide, and the Pro edition's SmartPitch makes the harmony follow the guide's pitch. Redrawing pitch note by note suits Melodyne or RePitch, but VocAlign greatly reduces the manual time spent aligning harmonies and doubles.

Q4. Are there sales or upgrade prices?

A. Sales are held from time to time on Plugin Boutique and the Synchro Arts site. Upgrade pricing may be available if you own an eligible license, and it's also offered via subscription. Discount rates and conditions change, so check the latest before buying.

Summary

VocAlign Pro is a tool for automatically tightening the timing (and pitch) of harmonies and doubles, cutting the time spent on manual waveform editing dramatically. For beatmakers who produce and mix vocal-heavy songs, and for anyone racing a deadline who wants to reclaim editing time, batch processing with Process Groups, pitch following with SmartPitch and Pro Tools ARA integration are practical weapons. The regular Pro price of $199 (as of July 9, 2026) isn't cheap, but the more songs you handle, the more the time savings add up. The realistic move is to confirm the alignment quality and time saved in your own workflow, and check the price — including sales and upgrades — each time.
